Engagement Photography Surrey
Did you get engaged over the holidays? If so Congratulations!
Are you thinking about having an engagement shoot but not too sure what it involves?
Here’s all the information you need to help get you prepared for your very own pre-wedding shoot.
I have designed a photography package that can be used to celebrate your engagement, as a way to mark an anniversary, birthday or valentines day, or simply just to celebrate your love for one another!
The engagement shoot can also be added on to your wedding photography package and is an excellent way to get to know me a little more before your wedding and get comfortable posing and being in front of the camera.
WHY HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT
You certainly don’t need to have an engagement shoot but you might be wondering if it would be worthwhile.
An engagement shoot is a great way for you to spend a bit more time getting to know your photographer and feel comfortable being photographed together. For many people the engagement shoot is simply a way to feel relaxed and comfortable about their wedding photography, giving them one less thing to worry about.
An engagement shoot can also be a wonderful opportunity to document your personal story, it can be a beautiful record of how you were when you were engaged and it starts a story which will be continued on throughout your wedding photographs.
Your engagement shoot can either be in a stylised and story-telling style or simply some relaxed photos of the two of you in a place you feel comfortable. It’s completely up to you!
£250 (or £200 when added to a wedding package)
• An hour and a half photoshoot at a location of your choice
• Around 25-30 uniquely beautifully edited images from the shoot will be supplied to you via your personal online gallery. You’re free to print, keep and share the images as much as you like.
Where the photoshoot takes place can be entirely up to you, or I can always suggest some locations if you are stuck for an idea. You might wish to choose a place which is important to you both or reflects a love of something that you do together. The main priority is that you feel comfortable!
Some other things to think about when choosing your location…
• You should be able to freely express affection and emotion.
• You should feel free to to have FUN.
• You should feel beautiful.
From parks to train stations, to cafes or even the comfort of your own home- you’re free to choose somewhere that means something to you both. There is no such thing as an ‘ugly’ location….there is beauty everywhere….we just have to find it!
Some of the shots you see here were taken around London’s Southbank, with industrial bins and urban walls as a backdrop, so please know that the location doesn’t necessarily have to be pretty at every corner 🙂
1. MAKE IT PERSONAL
It’s always fun to bring along props. We can use the engagement session like a mainstream shoot – complete with props and scenery. Feel free to bring things along that really reflect your fantastic personalities.
For instance, I’ve had a couple bring along matching iPods, because they’re both really into music. Another idea is to shoot at a coffee shop if you both share a love of coffee. The list is endless! Suggestions include (but are not limited to) bikes, polaroid camera, your pet dog, your hiking gear, magazines you like reading. Anything! 🙂 Don’t hesitate to bring anything that truly reflects you individually or as a couple. If props aren’t your thing, don’t worry your photos will still look just as great!
2. WHAT NOT TO WEAR
Outfit changes can give you some extra diversity in a shoot and this doesn’t mean you have to change your entire outfit. Just a change of jumper or jacket can give you both a very different look if you would like some variety in your photos.
There is no right or wrong thing to wear for a photoshoot. Please where what you feel comfortable in and something which makes you feel beautiful (or handsome) and confident. If you feel your best you’ll look your best in each and every photograph.
3. HAIR AND MAKE-UP
Some brides-to-be will have their practice run regarding hair and makeup right before the engagement shoot. This helps them feel a little more ‘done-up’ for the shoot and boosts their confidence. This is definitely not a necessity but it is a nice way to do something useful with your pre-wedding make over, it certainly beats sitting home in your PJs with the most gorgeous hair and make-up. In my experience shooting engagement sessions, girls want to feel pretty and confident…and sometimes spending a little extra time getting ready achieves just that.
5. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Don’t hesitate to check out photo shoot locations beforehand. I encourage you to find a spot that reflects your love and a place you’ll both feel comfortable. And please note that there is no such thing as an ‘ugly’ location….there is beauty everywhere….we just have to find it! I’ve shot pretty much in every location imaginable (dumpsters, septic tanks, graffiti walls, etc), so please know that the location doesn’t necessarily have to be pretty at every corner 🙂
4. ALLOW YOURSELF TIME
Please be on time 🙂 Portrait photographs look best when shot during the best natural-light and I’ve planned the session to make the most of the most beautiful light available. An average shoot lasts 1-1.5 hours…if you show up 30 minutes late, the session can not be extended, but, rather, ends at the regularly scheduled time. I want you to have the BEST photography experience and being on time achieves this, as there’s nothing worse than being flustered and late right before you need to be relaxed in front of the camera 🙂
